My dear friends,
You must be inspired by the beautiful scenes and the natural folkway in Daocheng county.
All of these are under favor of the local traditional culture. Do you know that?
Whether you know or not, your carelessness here may destroy the beautiful scenes and the natural folkway.
The Tibetan traditional culture claimed to be good to the nature. But this convention is being eroded by the modern city life conception coming with the visitors.
White Eared-pheasant,regarded as the “god in the forest”, is protected as the holy creature by the Tibetans, because the local people believe that it can bring them good luck. The forest is White Eared-pheasant’s home. So, the forest and the other wild life are conserved while the local people protect White Eared-pheasant. Not only to the local people White Eared-pheasant brings good luck but also to other local lives.
However, with the deepening of the open and the development of the tourism industry the external ideas are changing the simple consumptive conception and the autarkic produce mode in Daocheng county. Some one did not satisfy the autarkic consumed mode. They tried to build a big house which is bigger than their need to display to others. In Daocheng county, the wood cut for building house is the biggest threat to White Eared-pheasant. The home of White Eared-pheasant is shrinking and being fragmented for the luxurious wood consume. The forest is disappearing for the extra activity of the human beings.
Some of the Tibetan changed their consumed idea on furs. In the past, they only bought a few furs as decoration. But now they will buy a lot of wild animal’s furs to gain others’ especially the visitors’ acclaim.
To kill living beings, especially to kill wild animals, is a sin to the Tibetan. Not only the monks/nuns but also the layman Buddhists are forbidden to kill living beings in the Tibetan regions.
When the Tibetan know that the furs are coming from the lively wild animals and paid by breaking the taboo, will they still consume lots of furs? And shall we still applaud and admire their shining furs? In order to protect the endangered wild animals and protect the Tibetan traditional culture, please let us publicize that dressing furs is killing wild animals and do not consume the furs.
Fish, god in water, is forbidden to eat as a rule without written form in Tibetan tradition, because thousands of roes were killed while killing one fish. So there is one old saying that is thousands of lives’ sin for killing one fish. There are plenty of fishes even in the narrow rivulet here in past time. But now, what can we see in these rivers? Here we came, and we ordered the fish. The local people knew that selling wild fish can make them rich. So they caught wild fish unboundedly ignoring the taboo. Some of them even learnt to eat fish. The water god are disappearing under our eyes.
Chicken, fish, rabbit, and other wild field dishes, these words are mostly showed in the menus of restaurants in the tourism area. It is totally to cater for the visitors’ appetite to do that. The traditional Tibetan didn’t eat these animals even they were feeding. On the contrary, they tried to beg for safety by freeing captive animals. But now, they hunted and fished because the visitor wanted to taste the meat of wild animals. Some of them even learnt to eat the so-called deliciousness. They abandoned their tradition which is one of the main reasons for plenty of wild animals here. Not only the wild animals we are eating, but also the tradition, the culture and the ecological environment.
My dear friends, please let us know what we should not do. Let the local people know what is the most important to them. Please tell ourselves and our friends not to eat chicken, fish, rabbit and other wild animals. Please respect the Tibetan traditional culture. Please tell them to cherish their culture and the environment. Just for your doing, the mountains and waters here, the local people and the following visitors, will appreciate you. Sincerely wish you have a pleasure trip.
